2022 Adjudicator
piano - Arne Sahlen
Arne Sahlén has performed to acclaim at hundreds of recitals, concerts and fund-raising events in Canada and beyond. From his Kimberley BC studio he teaches piano, theory and pedagogy online and in person. His students win many awards and go on to study at renowned institutes. A 25-year piano examiner, he has adjudicated piano and composing at some 120 local, regional and provincial music festivals. He served for decades as a Visiting Music Professor at Cambodia’s Royal University of Fine Arts.
Arne’s early training was in Prince Rupert BC with Phyllis Hankinson, then in Prince George BC with Elizabeth McGillivray. He graduated in Piano Performance (with Distinction) from the University of Victoria, in the class of Robin Wood FRAM, and in Pedagogy with Winifred Scott Wood LRSM at the Victoria Conservatory of Music. He earned the Victoria Medallion and Rose Bowl, the BC Provincial Music Festival championship in Senior Piano, the ARCT Gold Medal, and many other awards. Among international ventures, he was for two decades a Visiting Music Professor at Cambodia’s Royal University of Fine Arts.
